Project 54 in New Zealand!

Kid Trip #3 New Zealand has been one of our longest and closest partners in the outdoor ministry realm.  Over the past few years our friends there have been able to start a ministry called Wide Open Spaces (WOS).  Wide Open Spaces in a non-profit charitable trust operating in New Zealand.  Their heart is to bring people closer to Jesus, by taking them into the wilderness as Christ did with his own disciples.   Their aim is to do this at the lowest possible cost enabling everyone to have an opportunity to meet Christ in creation.   This past summer WOS took four trips of young people into the bush.  It was a blessing to be able to partner with them this past summer and see the amazing fruit that God brought through this ministry.  WOS also does a fundraiser similar to Project 54 called the Peak Challenge, make sure to check it out.  Way to go WOS!  Keep on fighting for those young Kiwis!

Project 54 in Czech Republic!

Over the past four years we have been able to develop a wonderful friendship with a group of youth workers in The Czech Republic.  These guys have a tremendous heart for the outdoors and for young people.  Their passion led them to develop and organization called Krestanský Outdoor (or for us non-Czech speakers it’s known as KO).  KO’s aim is to introduce Czech young people to Jesus Christ through wilderness adventures.  Czech Republic is the most atheistic country in the world and we at WMI admire and applaud their passion and efforts to bring the Gospel to their country.

Project 54 has given us the resources to provide training and gear for KO.  For more information you can check out KO’s website or check out their facebook page.  It has been such a privilege to partner with KO, keep up the good work you guys!  We are with you!

P54 in Romania!

Romania1 We have had the privilege of partnering with a handful of Romanian youth workers over the past 4 years.  It has been so encouraging to watch them combine their passion for the outdoors and their passion for reaching young people into a ministry that has made a difference in Romania.

One of the most encouraging stories is from a trip these guys have been taking out every year from a ministry called the Deborah House.  The Deborah House is a home for abused girls in Timisoara, Romania.  The stories these girls have are heartbreaking but the transformation and the way that they have encountered Christ in the wilderness is truly amazing.  Thank you guys for standing in the gap for kids in Romania, it has been a priviladge to partner with you!

Their outdoor ministry is run out of Alpinis and you can learn more about the Deborah House here.

Here are some pictures of Project 54 gear and training in action, thank you for your support!!

P54 In Nepal!

As we begin to ramp up for this years event I thought it would might be inspiring to show you where some of the funds have gone from Project 54. We’ll be posting a segment every week until the event with a different country who has benefitted from this fundraiser.

Over the past few years we have had the privilege to partner with with some rock star youth workers in Pokhara, Nepal.  Here are a few pictures from a trip with leaders and some of the local youth from Pokhara.  These Nepali youth workers are incredibly gifted at pursuing young people where they are at through English classes, computer classes and every day life.  We are encouraged and blessed by this partnership.

Currently, these youth workers are in the process of starting up a trekking company to increase sustainability of the youth work in Pokhara.  For more information on taking a trek in Nepal please visit their website; Nepal Outdoor Adventures.

This partnership and the gear provided has been partly made possible by Project 54.  Thank you for investment in this ministry and the transformation of lives around the world!

Mt. Wilson!

Mt. Wilson team, you guys rock!  Here is their story:

We had a great time. Megan and I started out on friday after noon on the kilpacker trail and were amazed at all the wild mushrooms! Like we’ve never seen before, so many colors and sizes and shapes, what a creative God. We arrived at the Navajo lake camp site and the first person we see is Gary our third team member who road his horse Fred from Woods lake TH. We quickly set up camp and made dinner. We were happy and excited to be there together doing what we were doing and it meant so much more than just Climbing a Fourteener. That night I slept really great, until 1:40am then thinking we over slept I grabbed for my watch. Come to find out it was not the light of dawn but instead it was the almost full moon. After that I couldn’t go back to sleep and thought seriously about getting the others up to start our climb but I resisted the temptation and waited. A really long time! Needless to say, 4:30am finally rolled around and by 5:00am we were off. We were guided by moon light that morning and we could see the cloud rolling in over our climb, not the other two 14rs in the near by area just ours, but we remained optimistic. As always the sun rise was unreal and we trudged on, through the impending weather and precarious terrain.
We got shut down by the weather, we didn’t make the summit. When I made the call to turn around, I was amazed to find no remorse in my heart. I never thought I could ever get that close, having gone through all that, and then just be okay with not making it. Our hearts were there with the rest of yours for the same reason; the struggle, the journey, and for the kids. God is honored there, weather at the top or somewhere along the way. Our hearts were delighted to be of use.

Mt. Lindsey summit pictures!  Way to go guys!  Here is what their team leader had to say about the day:

It was a wonderful experience, each person challenged in a very unique way.  If just being together for 24 hours accomplished this much in personal growth (it was more technical than all expected) I imagine the extended trips you take with the young people would be incredible – Dan Kurschner
